Gold breaks out toward 2,435 as real yields ease

A softer dollar and slipping real yields have powered XAU/USD out of its consolidation flag.

The set-up at a glance

Gold has resolved its multi-day consolidation to the upside, and the path of least resistance now points toward the 2,435 objective. The metal spent late July coiling in a tightening flag beneath 2,410; this week's clean break above that ceiling — on the back of a softening dollar and easing US real yields — validates the bullish continuation pattern.

The macro tailwinds are aligned. Front-end Treasury yields have rolled over as soft US labour data revives September-cut pricing, and the 10-year real yield has slipped enough to lower the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset. Add a steady drip of haven demand from geopolitical headlines, and gold has the fundamental cover it needs to extend.

Technically, 2,400 has flipped from resistance to pivot support — the textbook role reversal that underpins a durable breakout. Above, the measured move off the flag projects toward 2,435, with the psychological 2,450 the next magnet on extension. Momentum is firmly constructive, though the daily RSI is approaching overbought and argues for patience on fresh entries.

Risk management is straightforward. A daily close back under 2,392 would signal a failed breakout and expose 2,380, while a break of 2,360 would end the bullish thesis outright. As always with gold, a sharp back-up in the dollar or real yields — most plausibly on a hot payrolls print — is the fastest way to reverse the move, so keep stops honest.
